Their tri-lingualism showed up in their music: they often mixed and matched melodies of the three ethnic groups. They don’t distinguish the tunes according to which ethnic group it belongs to, rather they identify a tune by when it is used. It doesn’t matter whether a tune is Hungarian or Romanian – they simply play this or that one. On this CD a “verbunkos style” Hungarian tune is heard both in the Romanian and Hungarian dance cycles.
As in other places in Transylvania, the musicians on this CD often adjust a melody to fit another dance rhythm or meter: on track 9 (the Romanian dance cycle), an originally Hungarian melody is played both for Romanian de-a lungu and leneşa dances.
