Since the band from Mezőkölpény played for Hungarians, Romanians and Gypsies in the region, we include music for all three ethnic groups on this record. The opening progression of Hungarian dance music (Track 1) is followed by music played for Gypsies (Track 2).

There are some Gypsy tunes in the last part of the Hungarian dance cycle; while the “Gypsy table tunes” (in Track 2) are actually old Hungarian laments, played by Gypsy musicians for people sitting at tables during breaks in the dancing. It is interesting to note that in the second line of one of the tunes on Track 2, the violin player uses what they call the “Gypsy scale with extended seconds”.
