Aladár Konkoly, who plays lead violin on tracks 1-13 on this CD, is from the town of Heves. From early childhood Mr. Konkoly was trained be a musician, he learned to read music and play violin in music school. Later he played in various Gypsy bands mostly in restaurants. Over his long career he has played in restaurants in six counties.

The band plays the standard Hungarian provincial restaurant repertoire, which means: composed Hungarian folk songs, listening tunes, popular tunes with slow esztam accompaniment, composed csárdás music, waltzes, tangos, excerpts from light opera and other standards. But, until recently he also played regularly for village weddings and balls where the traditional folk tunes also turn up; this record presents mainly this kind of repertoire.
