MAGOS: AHOL AZ ÖKÖR IS BORT ISZIK!
„In Péterlaka we had great vineyards. That was why when asked about the place of birth, everybody from Magyarpéterlaka would answer: ’it is where even the oxen drinks wine. It was exactly like that. A large farmer let his oxen out, and as he was pressing the grapes, the oxen came over and started to drink the stum from the pail." - Aladár Csiszár, the violinist of Magyarpéterlaka was always happy to tell the origin of the saying.
The common history of Aladár Csiszár and Magos Band started at the beginning of the 21st century when our lead violinist, Csaba Soós asked Aladár at a dance house performance whether he could join them to play. Some years later Csabi went on to learn the secrest of Aladár’s playing at his place in Körtvélyfája, then the following summer they accompanied dancers together in a folk dance and music camp in Jobbágytelke. From that time on we performed together with Aladár Csiszár in Jobbágytelke every year, and several times in Budapest too. This master-student relationship gradually evolved into friendship, we could perform together with Aladár Csiszár as his fellow musicians: violinists, viola-, double bass- and dulcimer players.
Sadly, on 16th of February 2022 our beloved master passed away, his funeral in Körtvélyfája was the last time we could ’accompany’ him: this time to the graveyard, together with a great number of musicians and friends. We had been working on our CD for months, but our common performance could never take place.
With our album, we would like to present the rich melodic treasures of Magyarpéterlaka from the Upper Maros region, thus commemorating Aladár Csiszár and the famous musicians from Magyarpéterlaka.
Our primary aim is to give an authentic picture of this unique Hungarian, Romanian and Gipsy folk music from Magyarpéterlaka with the help of our personal experiences and rich music collections.
