This publication is dedicated to Zoltán Kallós (1926 – 2018), who devoted his entire life to the collection of the diverse folk customs, vocal and instrumental music, and rich folklore treasures of Transylvania.

Following in the footsteps of Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály, he has collected and noted down around fifteen thousand melodies. This intellectual heritage has been preserved by numerous written and audio publications, while the old peasant clothing and objects – of Hungarians, Romanians and Saxons as well – are safeguarded by a museum located at Válaszút (Răscruci, Romania). In addition to the intellectual and material treasures collected in immense quantities, it is also the current active value-preservation and promotion, cultural community service activities of the Foundation bearing his name that elevate Zoltán Kallós to be one of the most significant ethnographers in the last 100 years.

Zoltán Kallós has been of assistance to many people with his useful pieces of advice and guidance: whom to approach when collecting and what the proper questions were for that particular person. We also have often been advised by him.

One of our first journeys led us to Visa (Vişea) in the heart of the Mezőség region in Transylvania – a small village, home to a mere 600 inhabitants. The material to be found on the Gyűjtés (Field recordings) CD is a compilation of melodies of the rich folk music and dance traditions of that territory. The aficionados of this musical culture play on the CD titled Revival, partly putting on display the songs from Gyűjtés and partly offering an insight into the instrumental music characteristic of the area. We firmly believe that the wonderful contribution presented here will also enrich others.

The recordings for Gyűjtés (Field recordings) were completed on 3 March 2005 at Visa (Vişea, Romania).

Revival CD was recorded and mastered at Living Room studio in January 2018
