When, in 1940, northern Transylvania became part of Hungary, many of the Romanians living there, left their homeland to try their luck in the capital of Romania. The local gypsy musicians (in Bucharest) who had to serve the musical needs of the Transylvanian Romanian community had a difficult time doing so. The musicians of the so-called from the "Havasalföld" (northern Transylvania) had a completely different styles as well as repertoires. Romanian ethnomusicologists made a recording on gramophone record of a band in 1941. The recording was made when the musicians were playing in restaurants on particular square in Bucharest known as "big market square". All three of the musicians on the recording could play lead fiddle, viola (kontra) and double bass, thus they switched off, each one playing lead fiddle for the repertoire where he was from, or playing back up for repertoire of another area. The three musicians on the recording which had moved to Bucharest from three different villages, and even three different historical counties: Szászlekence (Beszterce-Naszód county), Melegföldvár (Szolnok-Doboka county) and Bonyha (Kis-Küküllő county). The recordings were released in 1984 by the Bucharest Ethnological and Dialectological Research Institute (Electrecord EPE 03319). When the recording was made, the sixteen year old, Oscar But (prímás from Szászlekence) played six tunes. Thus, that until now, these six tunes were all of the representative material which had been released from the Budatelke–Szászszentgyörgy area.
