Roma divas and string jugglers from the 'Wildeast' come alive on Cimbaliband’s new recording: “Fushion”. Horváth Alexendra from the Transylvanian Roma community of Őrkő joins this unique Budapest based band led by cymbalom player Unger Balázs.

Alexandra, acclaimed for her singing performances on various Hungarian TV programs, has been working with Cimbaliband for two years now. Their Gypsy Fushion concert features Alexandra’s voice, Unger Balázs’s cymbalom solos and Solymosi Máté’s violin: leading their audience into the wonderful world of Gypsy folklore and jazz.

GYPSY FUSHION is now on sale at Fonó’s webshop, through other distributors, and will soon be available in digital form as well.

Excerpt from the record cover:

"This record is a tribute.
A salute to the memory of the great Roma performers, it includes arrangements that brought respect and popularity to Roma singers and musicians of the past, and are still being handed down to the next generations.
This record evokes the past.
We conjure up the strong spirit and rich flavor of the divas and Gypsy violinists who have left a living mark on the cultural fabric of Eastern Europe and have had huge influence on the constantly changing ‘language’ of our world music. When we hear names like Esma Redzepova or Vera Bila a familiar world of music unfolds before us and though they are no longer with us – we want to keep their memory alive.
This record has also been a challenge.
It is a great challenge and honor as well for another Roma singer to bring back their spirit. Horváth Alexandra a young singer from the Transylvanian Roma community of Őrkő has risen to the task. This recording is the culmination of two years’ work with Cimbaliband. The band’s leader and cymbalom player Unger Balázs, adds his name to the arrangements with virtuoso cymbalom solos. Violinist Solymosi Máté’s talent makes him a wonderful interpreter of Gypsy violinists of the past, whom he brings to life and to greater heights as he takes them into the present."
