Fonó is amongst the best world music record labels !

Yesterday WOMEX released this year's list of Top World Music Labels. Out of several hundred labels Fonó is number 4 of the Top 20 labels – the only eastern-central European label in the top 20.

The WOMEX Top Label list is put together every year before the world music market and festival. This year the following releases are to thank for Fonó’s distinguished placing: Lajkó Félix: Most jöttem, Buda Folk Band: Saját gyűjtés, Cimbaliband: Moldva as well as Herczku Ágnes: Live at WOMEX and Zűrös Banda.

Fonó is the only Hungarian label on the list and the only label from the region. For the 4th year it has been amongst the best 20 world music labels – first it was number 20 on the list, then number 12, then 13. This year is the first time it is amongst the leaders!

The list is compiled every month from votes of 48 world music radio experts from 25 countries; finally before the yearly market they choose the best labels. The award for the best label of the year is given out during WOMEX. This year the German label Glitterbeat Records is number one.
