"Kapu és kert" [Gate and Garden]: a holiday release by Fonó Records
Dresch Quartet’s brand new album Kapu és kert [Gate and Garden] is released
Fonó Records released Kapu és kert [Gate and Garden], the latest item of the “Dresch oeuvre” for the holidays.
“For those who might not know it, I should tell that all they read about Mihály Dresch is true. He is a real hero who has gone his own way for two decades now, juxtaposing Hungarian folk music with Béla Bartók’s musical world and highest quality jazz as if the Village Vanguard was located in a traditional Hungarian village”. (Quart.hu)
Despite not regarding himself a pioneer, he is definitely one: no other artist would mingle the harmonies and improvisational technique of African-American jazz so seamlessly with Hungarian folk tunes and the general Hungarian spirit, making them form an elaborate and natural unity. No other artist plays such a genuine “Hungarian jazz”. All during the last thirty-five years, music for Mihály Dresch has been a way of identity pursuit; he lived inwards, laying the foundations within, going is own way unwaveringly, no matter if he was regarded trendy and successful or not”. (Béla Szilárd Jávorszky)
The album is available at the Fonó webshop , the LeMezei CD music store at Fonó, and at several other music stores.
