Serbian-Hungarian Dance House: Babra

Fonó Budai Zeneház (Fonó Music House) has joined this year’s Serbian-Hungarian Cultural Season. Our partners include Hagyományok Háza (House of Traditions), Nemzeti Színház (National Theatre of Hungary), Budai Szerb Ortodox Egyház (Serbian Orthodox Church of Buda), and Magyarországi Szerb Színház (Serbian Theatre of Hungary).

As part of the collaboration, a South Slavic dance house is taking place every month until July. Leading bands of the region will evoke the diverse musical heritage of the South Slavic communities along the Danube.

The evening’s guest is Babra: the Budapest-based band, founded in 2014, brings a fresh color to traditional South Slavic music. At the heart of their sound are the tamburas, complemented by traditional singing as well as clarinet, saxophone, recorder, and accordion.

Their debut album, released in 2019 by Fonó Records, reached the Top 10 of the World Music Charts Europe. In 2020, they performed at the Budapest WOMEX Showcase at Művészetek Palotája (Palace of Arts, Budapest). In 2022, they recorded a joint album titled Razem with the Polish group Megitza. In 2024, they celebrated their tenth anniversary with a jubilee album entitled Száz év tambura (“One Hundred Years of Tambura”).
