Juhász Gábor Trio feat. Aurél Holló – Kaláka In Blue Album Launch

Kaláka is eternal. When I was young, they were already around, and the preschoolers growing up today are listening to them too. The band is alive and active. I jokingly say that Kaláka is like the Rolling Stones.

Kaláka’s connection to Hungarian poetry is obvious. So is their connection to Hungarian folk music. But only a truly discerning ear will hear that jazz can also be found at the very roots of their music. It was a great pleasure to work with these songs. The original songs tell stories, and we also wanted to tell stories through our own means, with our own instruments. I am almost certain that when people listen to the album, many of them will find themselves humming along with the instruments to the lyrics of the original songs. We hope that our interpretation will shed new light on these timeless songs, while these timeless songs will in turn shed new light on our melodies and improvisations. Perhaps the album can even help those who know the songs well but have so far felt alienated by jazz, or have not quite understood how jazz improvisation connects with timeless melodies, to come closer to the genre.
