Hegymegett & Erőss Réka + Ganjálló

Hegymegett & Erőss Réka

It’s no exaggeration to say that the discovery of the band from Szászcsávás marked one of the last truly great surprises in the unique world of Transylvanian village string music. The musicians from Csávás quickly stepped into the spotlight, and their popularity reached far beyond the boundaries of the dance house movement. The secret of their success lies not only in the virtuosity of a band featuring three lead violinists, but in the exceptional drive and musicality they brought to the stage time and again. Alongside the musical traditions of Szászcsávás, they also carried and performed, without accent, the Romanian, Roma, and Hungarian musical heritage of the surrounding villages.

For us, the Csávás band and its musicians became a point of reference for the playing style and ideal sound of traditional village ensembles. We consider ourselves fortunate to have encountered these musicians not only in various camps, but also in their own home environment—witnessing their way of life and the birthplace of their music, and experiencing the dynamics of their melodies from multiple perspectives. This concert is a tribute to those memories, evoking the authentic Roma, Hungarian, and Romanian musical world of Szászcsávás and nearby villages, with melodies that are not typically part of standard dance house sets. The ensemble is joined by singer Réka Erőss from Sfântu Gheorghe.
