Fonó Wednesday: Dances of Gyimes
The Gyimes region is located in the valley of the Trotuș River and administratively belongs to Ciuc County. Its inhabitants originally settled here partly from Ciuc and partly from Moldavia.
The area consists of three villages: Gyimesfelsőlok, Gyimesközéplok, and Gyimesbükk. The population is predominantly Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic. Due to its isolation, it has preserved many archaic features in both its folk music and dance traditions.
During the January sessions of Fonó Wednesday, visitors can explore the dances and folk songs of this region.
Our January series serves as a kind of preparation, laying the groundwork for the following month, when attendees can learn the traditions of this region from various experts. On February 28, musicians and dancers from Gyimes itself will join us, bringing the intoxicating traditions of the Gyimes open-air museums to life.
