Mihály Borbély Balkan Jazz Projekt
The Balkan Jazz Project is a dynamic band led by Mihály Borbély, a versatile musician comfortable in folk and world music, jazz, and contemporary music. Borbély has received numerous accolades, including the Artisjus, eMeRTON, Knight's Cross, Szabó Gábor, and Liszt Awards, and as a member of the Vujicsics Ensemble, he was also awarded the Kossuth Prize. The group is formed by like-minded musicians who share a similar spirit and approach. Their successful concerts to date—with the world-renowned cimbalom virtuoso Miklós Lukács, Mihály György, an expert interpreter of South Slavic and Greek music, Krunoszláv Agatics, a master of Balkan accordion playing, and the rhythm section formed by the tandem of Balázs Horváth and G. Szabó Hunor—prove that the energies of the Carpathian Basin, the Balkans, and jazz can be easily brought into focus. At their concerts, fans of folk music, jazz, and world music can expect a unique experience: powerful rhythms, delicately transparent, lyrical melodies, and rousing dance tunes all come to life. Their highly successful album, "Live at Fonó feat. Theodosii Spassov," was released under the Fonó label.
For the Újbuda Jazz Festival, they will take to the stage with a special program that combines ancient traditions with contemporary experiments, reflecting the spirit of the festival.
