JAZZFEST BUDAPEST: Varga Bendegúz Quartet

Bendegúz Varga’s second album „Chasing Your Dreams”, released in the summer of 2023 on Tom-Tom Records, is a continuation of his 2018 release „Goldmund”, perhaps with a more sophisticated sound and a clearer commitment to modern mainstream, experimental contemporary jazz. The compositions and instrumentation of the band leader and members are carefully crafted, with a consistent emotional and atmospheric charge, and their playing is of a high quality and sensitivity. The material on the album is varied yet coherent, and offers a relatively accessible musical world for those new to the genre.

He founded his own band in 2015, in which his current bandmates include János Ávéd, repeatedly voted Saxophonist of the Year, Ádám Bögöthy, one of the jazz scene’s busiest bassists, and Márton Fenyvesi, Junior Prima Award-winning jazz guitarist, who is replaced on this evening by Áron Komjáti, guitarist of Freakin’ Disco, Balázs Elemér Group and Modern Art Orchestra.
