Szarka Gyula and his band - Bethlehem Star album launch
Upcoming events
Gyula Szarka, Kossuth Prize-winning performer and composer, presents the album launch of "Bethlehem Star."
The concert, titled "Bethlehem Star," is a performance suitable for both children and adults, featuring the most beautiful and well-known holiday tunes of the Christmas season. The show is a joyful celebration, as Christmas is about birth, love, hope, and the opportunity for new beginnings!
"I find it extremely important that we first and foremost be aware of our own culture, understand and feel what our natural environment is, where we belong, and what we have inherited! One of the greatest celebrations of our Christian culture, CHRISTMAS, has left its greatest imprint - a treasure of melodies in Hungarian music history! Let us not deprive ourselves, our family members, and friends of the joy of begging, caroling, and singing! Let us boldly embrace our beautiful traditions - let's sing Christmas songs about love!" – declares Gyula Szarka.
This is not Gyula's first Christmas program, as with the Ghymes ensemble's album "Mendika," they toured the Carpathian Basin over the past decade, giving hundreds of concerts. The newly released solo album, "Bethlehem Star," can be seen as a continuation of this program, bringing to life the melodic treasures of the Advent season from various regions of the Hungarian-speaking territories.
Guests at the album launch concert include Katalin Szvorák, who will sing Bethlehem carols from the Gömör region, and offer New Year's greetings. László Pelsőczy adds uniqueness to the evening with his prose, reciting Ady Endre's poem "Christmas - The Bell Resounds," and reading László Nagy's short story "The Man with the Christmas Tree." The Révai Music Workshop, a well-established choir consisting of high school students from Győr, actively participates throughout the entire program.
The performance concludes with the title song, "Bethlehem Star," which will be collectively performed by all participants! After the concert, the artist invites the audience for a small Christmas toast – tasting wines from his own winery, including Kisangyalom and Szarkabarát wines.
A six-member band takes the stage to perform the songs:
