Balázs József Trio feat. Zana Zoltán
József Balázs was born on August 28, 1978, in Budapest. He is one of the most sophisticated pianists and acclaimed composers of his generation. He made his debut on his brother Balázs Elemér's album titled "My New Way." As the main engine of the Balázs Elemér Group, one of Hungary's most successful bands, he serves as an arranger and composer alongside his brother. He achieved 2nd place at the Füsti Balogh Gábor Jazz Piano Competition and won the Best Soloist award at the Krakow Jazz Juniors Competition. In 2007, he received the "Ablakos Lakatos Dezső Jazz Performer Scholarship." He has played with various renowned musicians, including Erik Truffaz, Stephane Belmondo, Bobbie Watson, Charlie Mariano, Robin Eubanks, Steve Houben, Nicholas Payton, and Tim Ries. In 2007, he founded the Balázs József Quintet, and their first album, titled "I Don't Got You Mean," was released in 2008.
In addition to his success in jazz, he is recognized as an arranger in various genres of popular music. In 2010, he formed the ethno-jazz formation, the East Gipsy Band, which infuses Roma music from around the world with jazz. The East Gipsy Band brings together outstanding Hungarian jazz musicians with significant figures in Roma folk music: Balázs József – keyboards, Balázs Elemér – drums, Lajos Sárközi Jr. – violin, György Orbán – double bass, Vilmos Oláh – cimbalom, Gusztáv Balogh – vocals. Their debut album, "Ageless Message," was released in the spring of 2011, featuring the world-famous American saxophonist Tim Ries. The band has performed in significant jazz clubs in New York, Toronto, Brussels, and London, as well as at the renowned Detroit Jazz Festival. The band is currently working on their second album.
Tóth Viktor Skylark Metropolitan
The concert of Viktor Tóth's latest formation, a multiple award-winning alto saxophonist and composer. Among his eight released albums, several have won the Jazz Album of the Year award, each representing a different sound. Common among them is the innovative intent, overwhelming expressive power, and melodiousness. Expect a unique musical journey on this concert, soaring above the realms of swing-based modern jazz and twisted grooves with these fantastic musicians.
Intergeese
Intergeese was founded in February 2023 by three young musicians, Áron Horváth, Lőrinc Ágoston Mohácsy, and Zoltán Fekete. Each member comes from a different musical background, currently studying in Budapest, and actively participating in the emerging musician scene. The band's repertoire consists of contemporary jazz compositions inspired by Hungarian folk music. "Our goal is to find a musical path that remains true to the predecessors but stays relevant and fresh in today's musical world."
