Modern Art Orchestra

Legendary albums series

The Legendary Albums series presents material from records important in terms of jazz history performed by the Modern Art Orchestra. In these concerts the musicians want not only to express their respect for the works of these jazz legends, but also for the development of the workshop process. The musicians in the Modern Art Orchestra study and internalize the actual material of the entire record, leaving the original compositions, musical structures and instrumentations intact. Since improvisation and solo expression are also essential components of the jazz language, the musicians do perform true improvised solos during the concerts.
The Legendary Albums series brings the audience closer to the traditions of the jazz masters, also guaranteeing a new musical experience.

Herbie Hancock – Maiden Voyage

“Maiden Voyage” was one of Herbie Hancock’s greatest albums. The record was made in the spring of 1965 under the supervision of Rudy Van Gelder and released by Blue Note Records. It is important not only for its quality. The driving force of rhythm section well-honed in Miles Davis Quintet is in Herbie Hancock’s hands. The musical fabric is in several aspects more defined... elements of form also appear that preempt the integration of free music into mainstream. The record has eternalized the playing of George Coleman, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams and earned the sympathy of a large audience without making compromises of artistic expression.

Fekete-Kovács, Kornél – trumpet
Bacsó, Kristóf – saxophone
Cseke, Gábor – piano
Bögöthy, Ádám – double bass
