Day 5 concerts: EPHEMERE DUÓ, NIGUN, ROMAFEST GIPSY DANCE Theatre

19:00 Ephemere Duo
Ephemere Duo has been functioning officially as a band since 2020. Regular members of the band are jazz singers Caussanel Izabella and Orbay Lilla who began working together after meeting in the music conservatory. They inspire one another and the new ideas keep coming. The duo works in a jazz framework blessed with folk music elements, sometimes bearing pop influences and is often filled out with guest musicians.

“They say that three principles unite in music: the principles of life, spirit and soul.”
Nigun celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and for the occasion they bring new repertoire - for the most part, compositions by leader of the band Párniczky András. Their music continues to traverse the bygone world of Eastern European Jewish tradition. In their concerts this tradition is mystical but woven in with a very human sense of humour and sounds with enormous energy in the language of modern jazz.

They performed the material from their last record “Live inem Sargfabrik” released by Fonó in 2016 all over Europe (England, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Macedonia, Germany, Romania, Serbia) and in NewYork and Washington. The musicians regularly collaborate with guest musicians. Guest on their third record “Bale Kulturnik” from 2006 was Israeli saxophonist Daniel Zamir. In 2007 they performed with guest winds player Matt Darriau (Klezmatics) at Budapest’s Palace of the Arts. Members of the band performed in John Zorn’s piece “Cobra” also at the the Palace of the Arts. The band has also performed with Don Byron, Steven Bernstein, Frank London, Aaron Alexander (Hasidic New Wave), Yale Strom, Amikam Kimelman, Lukács Miklós and Borbély Mihály.

21:00 RomaFest Gipsy Dance Theatre
RomaFest Ensemble was formed in 2001 in the Romanian city of Marosvásárhely/Târgu Mureș. As representatives of Gypsy/Roma culture they have had successful performances all over Europe, in Asia and America. Their present artistic director and choreographer Szántó Attila came in contact with the group when he was eleven years old. Later he became a professional choreographer and has taken part in international festivals all over the world. After working in Canada with Cirque du Soleil for five years, in 2012 he returned to Romania. RomaFest Ensemble under his leadership organizes festivals, workshops, and dance camps in collaboration with the Romanian Roma community.
