Fonó Literature, Drama and Music
Verse, song, melody, poetry of Central Europe
The Fonó’s new literature, drama and music series brings folk poetry and contemporary poetry together through performances by well-known actors and outstanding musicians who are at home in the genres. The theatre, readings and recitations will leave room for spontaneity while focusing on how contemporary ‘the old’ can be, and inspire us to figure out how tradition can live on in the 21st century. We’ll preserve the old, make new rites and ritual based on the old and see how contemporary may grow out of tradition.
Songs, lyrics, folk song texts, original documents, selected passages, rhythmic sayings and yells, masterpieces of folk poetry are presented parallel with the works of contemporary Hungarian poets such as Csoóri Sándor, Lackfi János or Szabó T. Anna. Reviving forgotten lines and songs. Dramatic progressions that are easily understandable, sometimes humorous, other times grotesque, or very serious.
