Subtones
: Hungary’s newest jazz-pop super group!
Owing to their unique line-up this group has already been a mecca for groove-loving badboys, but lately they’ve added new colors to their palette. Leader of the band is Subicz Gábor - now joining him is Jónás Vera and Kiss Flóra to create a vocal section, while percussionist-beatboxer Szarvas Dávid helps take the band toward African rhythms and urban music sounds. The well-seasoned funk-jazz of Benkő Dávid, Csízi László, Csókás Zsolt and Fonay Tibor blends with the new members like lava - creating an extraordinary musical world, with space for lean song forms and great improvisation.
On their new recording “Octopus” diverse musical worlds blend into a unified and full-bodied sound all their own. The album became the immediate favorite of music lovers with an ear towards their kind of music. Performed live it’s always loudly cheered.
“Nothing could be better than listening to “Octopus” from beginning to end. (Ígéretes titánok)
“Creative, exciting ideas, a professional musical achievement with a great outcome. (Jazzma)
“Modern, easily elegant jazzfunk using avant-garde solutions with outstanding instrumentalists. When we can hear live music again, Subtones will surely be there on the whirling party scene.” (Végső Zoltán/Élet és Irodalom)

21:30 Kodály Spicy Jazz
A couple hundred years ago people expressed their feelings, joys and sorrows through folk song. If there had been hit lists then, the folk songs at the top of the lists would have been about the same things as those on the radio today: desire, love, happiness, heartbreak, separation. At the beginning of the 20th century Hungarian folk music researcher and collector Kodály Zoltán made folk songs popular again. And now with a trendy, creative swinging approach, it’s time to take Kodály’s best-known folk song adaptations to the youth and music platforms of the 21st century.
The most important message of Kodály’s life-work: “Music should be for everyone!” We’ve re-thought it like this: KODÁLY SHOULD BE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE OF THE 21ST CENTURY ALL OVER THE WORLD!
Kodály Spicy Jazz
project started in 2017 on the 50th anniversary of Kodály’s death. Kodály created lasting work as a folk song collector, composer, and music educator. We think that without Kodály’s world-famous teaching method, there wouldn’t be music instruction today. Kodály Spicy Jazz, while respecting traditions, bravely spices up Kodály’s folk song arrangements with fresh, up-to-date musical influences.
