Terra Profonda was formed in Budapest in 2012. Since then they have become regulars on Hungarian concert and festival stages, while performing abroad as well. They have toured as the warm-up act for Ripoff Raskolnikov Band. In 2018 they played at the Eurosonic festival in the Netherlands.
Terra Profonda’s compositions include rhythm and blues with avant-garde solutions as well as beautiful folk ballads and songs for burying tormented love. Sultry, emotional, dramatic compositions break away from the traditional world of sound and methods of composition. In their music, saxophone and Irish bouzouki, bass guitar and coboz mature into a unified sound. In the unusual instrumentation of their songs we witness meetings of Ali Farka Touré and Tom Waits, or Muzsikás and Woven Hand drinking to the health of Van Zandt. The intense and intimate presence of their Sicilian front man, their shamanistic power and sensitivity turn each performance into a ritual. Through Vincenzo’s husky, warm baritone they pierce the nights of sailors torn by love; frightened horses; scarred, wild wanderers; bad, discredited fathers/husbands - which like butterflies on a painter’s canvas are all drawn together into Terra Profonda’s world.
A native of Palermo, Italy, Vincenzo Lo Buglio decided in 2012 to find special partners for his compositions born of blues and American roots music. He has been active on the Hungarian music scene for some time, playing in many different contemporary music and jazz projects. In folk musician Kiss Krisztián and jazz bass guitarist Szabó Mátyás he has found the perfect partners for his music.
Kiss Krisztián born in the village of Tordas, Hungary, was surrounded by a productive folk music revival community, and soon he became a master on shepherd’s flute and coboz. A many-sided musician, he is a regular on Budapest’s dance house scene. He has played music with Petrás Mária and Kerényi Róbert, while paying close attention to the influences of contemporary music on the music of several cultures. In Terra Profunda he plays tenor sax, which he began under the influence of Dresch Mihály.
As a member of Panda Elektroakusztik, bass guitarist Szabó Mátyás has played with many excellent musicians on the Hungarian jazz and world music scene. In recent years he has played bass also with EllaSound’s harp-centered lyrical pop and poetry set to music.
