An evening of music and dance from Transylvania’s Gyimes region – an ONLINE event

A unique layer of Hungarian folk culture is found in Transylvania’s Gyimes region. The archaic melodies and instrumentation make it one of the most interesting examples of foreign influences. The music and dance of Gyimes is fascinating. The hit cello (gardon)’s comforting monotone, the violin’s intense virtuosity, the rhythmic stamping, the rolling quick turning, the dignity of the snow-white traditional costume, the slim gracefulness of the skirts, the heart-rending asymmetry of the slow turning couple dance, singing out life’s grief in the laments – the culture has such a deep aroma that it makes you dizzy… in a very nice way.
