Singer Varga Veronika and violinist Georgios Moysidis will lead the Greek jam sessions.

At each session, their ensemble, Ottoman Gramophon, will expand to include more musicians that have some connection to Greek music – whether that be as instrumentalists or singers from Hungary or from anywhere else on earth. As with Hungarian folk music, Greek musicians can be found everywhere.

We would like to re-create the atmosphere of the traditional Greek coffee houses….repertoire will mainly come from the Greek rebetiko and symrneiko genres, along with traditional music from the Greek islands and cities of the interior of Greece…

Rebetiko is a city genre which rests on Greek folk music tradition and Byzantine religious music culture. Over time unique compositions evolved out of traditional melodies and songs. Their formation and performance style remained close to the various Greek and Anatolian folk music styles.
