Attacca is a world music ensemble from Hungary. Their new CD “Világom” (My World) was released in September 2020 by Hunnia Records. They express themselves through the forms and tools of classical music and jazz, while authentic folk also appears strongly in their music adding color to their sound. The folk music of the Carpathian Basin and within that, the Hungarian peasant music researched by Bartók Béla and Kodály Zoltán have provided inspiration and guidance, as have the two composers’ works from the 20th century. Several pieces on the record are accompanied by dance choreographies that make reference to the dances which have for centuries been part of Hungarian culture and tradition. The record includes a folk song arrangement by Bartók Béla (1881-1945), as well as a piece composed for piano (adapted for ensemble) by Turkish composer Ahmed Adnan Saygun (1907-1991) who accompanied Bartók on his 1936 trip to Turkey to collect folk music.

Attacca Ensemble performed in the summer of 2019 at world music festivals in Hungary and has given several concerts in Budapest. Their music is broadcast by Hungarian radio stations and on world music and jazz programs including several interviews with the band (MTVA Dankó Rádió, Jazzy Rádió, Karc FM, Klub Rádió, etc). In January of 2020 their music was introduced on radio programs outside Hungary’s borders in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and Berehove, Ukraine.
