Borbély-Dresch Quartet

Borbély Mihály, Dresch Mihály. Two definitive figures on the Hungarian jazz scene. As musicians and human beings, they are examples for all of us. While they shouldn’t placed in a particular category, without a doubt they move foremost in ethno-jazz and do world class material. Both of these genius saxophonists have many of their own formations, but are happy to work together as well. With bass player Horváth Balázs and drummer G. Szabó Hunor, two artists that move superbly and successfully in many kinds of jazz, they are the Borbély-Dresch Quartetet.

Borbély Mihály – saxophone, tarogato, bass clarinet, flute
Dresch Mihály – saxophone, fuhun
Horváth Balázs – double bass
G. Szabó Hunor – drum

TÜLK

A new new world of sound that rests and pulsates on a folk music basis. Anyone who remains seated when hearing this simply likes to sit.

Each of the band members are important figures in Hungary’s music industry playing in various and successful formations. They have arrived from far corners to the same crossroads, where together they are looking for new musical paths. Their work until now has included the genres: pop, folk music, electronic, free jazz, classical music – but the similarity of their thinking is what makes their new style interesting.

The winds provide an elemental force, …the drum as an organic part, supports the momentum…the keyboards further the color…the instrumental tunes give us something to hang on to…on a musical journey often spiced with unusual chords and instrumental solos.

Their program offers pleasant relaxation for both festival goers and a seated audience. Their sound is not ‘everyday’ -  it is deeply thoughtful with pulsating dynamism from a modern rhythmic world that inspires dance.
