Transylvania’s Maros/ Mureș Region - with Magos Ensemble

Magos Ensemble and the Fonó have invited traditional musicians and dancers from the Maros/ Mureș River region of Transylvania (Romania). This area lies on the edge of the Transylvanian Plain (Mezőség /Câmpia Transilvaniei), and is referred to by the Hungarian folk music and dance researchers both as the “Székely-Mezőség” and the Upper Maros Region.

During the day we will be looking at traditional dances and music from the villages: Magyaró/ Aluniș, Marossárpatak/ Glodeni, Vajdaszentivány/Voivodeni, Magyarpéterlaka/ Petrilaca de Mureș, Mezőkölpény/ Culpiu, Mezőpanit/Pănet.

Also joining us for the day will be the wonderful traditional fiddler Csiszár Aladár from the village of Magyarpéterlaka who is one of Magos Ensemble’s main informants and teachers.
