Gyárfás István Trio with guest: Deseő Csaba

Violinist Deseő Csaba is a legendary figure in Hungarian jazz. In 2019 he celebrated his 80th birthday. He arrives to the Fonó for the Pre-New Year’s Jazz Evening with some of his favorite colleagues: guitarist Gyárfás István and his trio. The product of their collaboration is the CD “ Tale ”.

Gyarfas István has been working with his trio for more than 30 years. They have released six recordings (Live at the Jazz Café, Midnight in Pest, Tale, Nairobi Romance, Old Amsterdam, Cartoon Jazz) working with many soloists and perform extensively in Hungary and on tour abroad.

Elek István Quartet


Elek István’s career has spanned four decades. He has been a soloist with many bands; then gathering together some of Hungary’s best jazz musicians, he formed his own quartet in 2015.


The quartet does “mainstream jazz” – their program honors the big names in jazz and their followers, naturally in the spirit and personalities of the present. Their repertoire includes jazz standards by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Kenny Barron, Joe Henderson, Joe Zawinul.

Tóth Viktor - Gyárfás István duo


This duo does music valid in the present moment with roots matured in the jazz tradition; they play mainly Tóth Viktor’s compositions. These great musicians treat their audience to a colorful, improvisational, soulful journey.


Alto saxophonist, composer Tóth Viktor is a leading figure in Hungary’s younger generation of jazz musicians. His music embraces many styles, is centered on improvisation and is characterized by a soaring, spiritual performance style.


Guitarist, jazz composer Gyárfás István has played with some great musicians: Jeff Ballard, Carol Cass, George Duke, Sidney Ellis, Peter Erskine, Benny Green, and many others. He is a regular guest at jazz festivals in Hungary and abroad.

Atma Mundi Ensemble (CR)

Atma Mundi Ensemble is a jazz/world music group led by Croatia/Italy based multiinstrumentalist, arranger and composer Zoran Majstorovic. Their songs feature original music played on acoustic instruments from around the world, capturing musical heritage from different areas and cultures. The music is mostly based on various string and wind instruments, pitched and non-pitched percussion and sounds deriving from nature around us. Atma Mundi Ensemble is meant to be a project not only confined to music, but expanded to all means of art, with the primary idea of bonding together different artists interested in world culture. All Atma Mundi music is composed and arranged by Zoran Majstorovic.
Their new album called "The Road to Skitacha" brings 9 new original songs and after the first album "Waters and deserts“ (Croatia Records, 2014.) the new album features three special guests being the great Croatian pianist Matija Dedic, Italian saxophone and clarinet player Francesco Bearzatti, winner of the „Best european jazz musician“ prize in 2011 awarded by the "L'academie du jazz de France“, and the legendary Croatian artist Arsen Dedic on one special bonus track, the track unfortunately being his last recording.
