The Hungarian-Greek band’s special all night long musical program, who they feel honoured to invite masters of music around the field of their music interests.


For the fourth Meybahar evening, Martha Mavroidi and her music partner Giorgos Ventouris will be our guest from Greece. Martha is one of the most influenced young musician, composer, singer and lafta player from Greece. The deep inspirations of various singing technique from the Balkan, the beauty of her voice, and the rarely heard lafta in Hungary with her lovely attitude as a performer, will definitely creates magic on the stage!


MARTHA MAVROIDI (GR)

Martha Mavroidi is a singer, lutist and composer from Greece. She has been singing and playing folk lutes from her childhood, performing music from Greece and the Balkans. Later she developed an interest in contemporary music, blending elements of folk music with contemporary harmonies and improvisations. She has studied Musicology in Athens, Ethnomusicology in London and Los Angeles, and Contemporary Music in Amsterdam. With her Quartet she has performed in various venues in Europe and the USA. She has composed music for prize-winning short and feature films, and for dance and theatre productions. She has collaborated with numerous important and legendary musicians, such as Stathis Koukoularis (Greek folk violinist), Savina Yannatou (ECM artist), Eliza Carthy (English folk singer and violinist) and she has worked in the Greek National Opera. Now, for the first time we can listen her performance in Hungary.

MEYBAHAR (HU-GR)

The music of Meybahar resonates the hidden places of our soul, through the original cultures around the Aegean Sea and Middle East.

Meybahar were born with the duet of Marilia Pilti santouri (cousin of Hungarian cimbalom) and Márton Kopcsik, violin player with his own custom made instrument: a 5 string viola with sympathetic strings. When her santouri and his violin meets on the stage it creates magic atmosphere which drives you on undiscovered lands. The pulsation of the music supported by David Krolikowski on percussion, Merse Varga on doholla, frame drums & Péter Takács on tabla: a unique fusion of drum sound expressions, the Middle Eastern fingering technique and the Indian rhythm heritage.
The band plays in duo, different trio, quartet and quintet formation. They invite to perform and work together worldwide known musicians such as Ross Daly & Kelly Thoma and Haig Yazdjian.
