Dresch String Quartet
Dresch Mihály is one of the most unique, definitive leading figures in Hungarian jazz. His music doesn’t pursue folk culture, it lives with it and he consciously presents the heritage hidden there. The folk content built into his music provides a secure basis from which jazz soars and improvises. His recordings are basically instrumental, the folk tunes are not just cited, their texts are also heard. His music sweeps you in, it is personal and intimate, radiating power and faith. His work is known the world-wide, internationally he is held amongst the top musicians.
For decades Dresch Quartet has steadily and confidently taken its own path. Dresch together with the members of the band, have developed their blend of Hungarian folk music and Afro-American jazz. Dedication to the musical concept, total respect for the sources, excellent musicians, new compositions and what can be now called old Dresch favorites, standards done in Dresch mode – a combination of all this, is what the Quartet gives its audience every time; each concert is a new and enriching experience.
